When Dr. Nemera Weyesa passed away on Saturday, May 1st, 2021, in MPLS, MN, his colleagues at Voice of Independent Oromia (Raadiyoo Sagalee Walabummaa Oromiyaa) mourned his passing and recognized that our community had lost one of its greatest champions of freedom, a healthcare provider and a community healthcare consultant.
As a fearless and patriotic young doctor in Oromia, Dr. Namarraa lived among, and provided healthcare for, his fellow freedom fighters and his people. As a doctor in the USA, he provided healthcare to Americans of all walks of life, and healthcare advise to many in our community, contributed immensely to the Oromo struggle as member of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), and in 2014, co-founded Voice of Independent Oromia radio program to advocate for the liberation of Oromia from the Abyssinian colonial yoke.
Dr. Nemera was a much loved and respected Oromo community member, known for his compassionate and caring personality. His generosity with his knowledge, time and finances were legendary.
His family, the Oromo nation, and VIO mourn the loss of a great patriot and freedom fighter.
